Marie Paget's Foundation Exhibit Fall 2018
November 14, 2018
If you want an idea of what it is like to be in the first semester of your first year as a student in the School of Architecture + Design, take a look at all the work in the Cowgill Lobby. Marie Paget had her first year foundation lab exhibit what they’ve been working on during the past 12 weeks of the fall semester.
Scrolls of sketches and designs line the middle of the lobby – a semester’s long work all on one piece of paper. If you were to open each scroll, you could see a timeline of work and ideas from the very beginning to now.
Hanging on the main wall are hyper-realistic colored pencil drawings of leaves – zoomed in so that one might not quite guess that it was originally a leaf. Along the bottom of the wall are individual projects, originally conceived at the very beginning of their foundation education, now brought to life and improved upon. The middle of the wall has 36” x 1.5” wooden towers – Marie had her students make through subtracting from the whole without breaking the full length, while creating a pattern all around each side.
On the front walls, are paper structures, used to study and sketch shadows and cross sections. There are also line and form studies – all unique in color, shape, and design – their task was to use patterns and lines to demonstrate flow, movement, rhythm, and geometry.
It’s always great to see our students’ work exhibited in the Cowgill Lobby. We see great potential in our first semester, first year students, and we look forward to seeing what they do next semester and in the years to come.
Thank you, Marie, for all of your hard work and dedication to our students!
