Congratulations to architecture student, Katrina Uher, for winning the 2019 Houzz Award for Women in Architecture. This scholarship by Houzz is to show commitment to supporting and encouraging women architecture students as they pursue their educational endeavors and enter the world of residential design. Any female student studying architecture at an undergraduate or graduate level, as well as architectural engineering, is welcome to apply for this scholarship.

When applying, Katrina was prompted to write an essay about the question, "What inspires your architectural style?" She spent time reflecting on the type of architect she would like to be and how she got to where she is now. Katrina looked back at what experiences have shaped her passions and what kindled her curiosity in architecture as well as what drives her to keep pursuing the craft. After many drafts, outlines, rewrites, and non sequitur tangents she was able to sum up her motivations and write an essay that she was proud of.

When asked why she thought she may have won, she considered that she worked hard on making the reader feel what she felt, see what she saw, and understand why she does what she does; she wrote about what she loves and what brings her joy so that the reader could experience her inspirations.
