In Memoriam: Robert Chiang
January 15, 2018
Professor Emeritus Robert Ning-Shee Chiang of Blacksburg, Virginia, passed away at Johns Hopkins Hospital on October 9, 2017. He is survived by his son, Henry and daughter-in-law, Maggie; his two grandsons, Alex and Michael; and others in his extended family all over the country and in Hong Kong. Robert was born in Shanghai, China on March 23, 1931. He came to the U.S. to study at Auburn University, the University of Kansas, and Texas A&M University, and he started his teaching career in Indiana. He moved to Blacksburg in 1968 and was a Professor of Architecture at Virginia Tech for 30 years.
Robert and his late wife Sharon loved this beautiful town and region so much that they continued living in Blacksburg after their retirement. They created the Loving Care Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation of the New River Valley. Those who wish to honor Robert with a charitable donation may consider the Loving Care Fund. In March, 2018, Robert will be buried beside Sharon at Suzhou East Mountain in China to celebrate their joyful life together again. We will always remember his smile, knowledge, and enthusiasm... also his great cooking!
