Ryan Pieper, an instructor and shop manager at the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center, has received the grand prize in the Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Re-Form Design Competition for his “Swing Lamp” design. Another of Ryan’s projects, the “Wellness Daybed,” was selected as a finalist in the competition.

A student project from the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center, “[Infill] Hook” by Gabrielle Pearce, Nabila Sarker, and Daria Gelman, was named a competition finalist, and “Wall Flower” by Jack Gamboa, Rudy Abbot, and Carolin Stabitz, also students at the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center, made it to the finals of the competition.

Industrial Design alumni Kevin Jones (BS. Ind. Design 2014) and Alex Barrette (BS. Ind. Design 2014), founders of JoBa Design, won the Young Professional category of the competition for their project, the “Eating Curved” spoon. Architecture alumnus Alex Taylor (M.Arch. 2014) received the People’s Choice Award for his project, “PaTaPaTa ‘The Ladder Chair.’” Architecture alumnus Tom Shiner, FAIA (B.Arch. 1975) received the Price Modern Early Registration Apple Watch Giveaway.
