Lisa Tucker, interior design program chair and associate professor, and Donna Dunay, G.T. Ward Professor of Architecture, were among 60 faculty in North America recognized by “DesignIntelligence” as the Most Admired Educators of 2019 in their respective design education programs.

Lisa Tucker

Lisa Tucker, Ph.D. is a practicing interior designer and architect with professional accreditations in LEED BD + C and WELL. This is her third consecutive year recognized as a Most Admired Educator and her fourth time overall. Dr. Tucker’s experience in the design field and expertise in topics of sustainability, biophilic design, and historic preservation is incorporated well into her teachings. She holds degrees in Architecture and Architectural History from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Architectural Studies.

Donna Dunay

Donna Dunay, FAIA has been a member of the architecture faculty since 1974. Her areas of specialty include research on design studies, urban design, architecture and community identities as well as product design and production. Her work has been recognized with three statewide Excellence in Architecture Awards from the American Institute of Architects and a Distinguished Planning Award from the Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association. She is also chair of the International Archive of Women in Architecture. She has dedicated her teaching and research to explore cultural and civic understanding in practice through design research. Through her book, articles and presentations at numerous national and international events, she has contributed greatly to the professional practice of architecture and the communities the profession serves and brings to it an outstanding body of work. Dunay received a Bachelor's and Master's in architecture from Virginia Tech.
