Today in the Cowgill Lobby, five Foundation Labs presented work from the ‘House of Play’ competition. The competition prompt centered on creating a space meant to cater to all age groups, providing a haven for both children and adults to explore imaginative and physical realms. Under the guidance of Madison Cook, Scott Gartner, Bill Green, Jessica Hernandez, Andrew Shaver, and Clive Vorster, the student groups designed structures addressing practical aspects such as the integration of natural light, ease of assembly and disassembly, and considerations for both temporary and permanent foundations. Participants were encouraged to study and understand the building’s orientation concerning sun path, seasonal winds, and weather patterns, emphasizing the consideration between creativity, functionality, and feasibility in each project.
