First-year students in Chris Pritchett’s Foundation class last semester explored the use of narrative in design with the project prompt of ‘Flatland High School’. The goal was to tell a story or convey a sequence of experiences to the observer. The narrative is expressed through various means (Design Elements, Spatial Arrangement, Material, Symbolism and Metaphor, Cultural Context).

Flatland High is designed to house the common archetypes from High School films. The exploration explores why these archetypes persist and how they exist in some form throughout historical texts and the role they serve in storytelling and in society.
