Yesterday, the Foundation Lecture Series had its third and final lecture of the fall semester. Madison Cook invited the artist Phillip K. Smith, III to present his work to our first year students at the Lyric Theatre. Smith uses light as a medium to create optically shifting sculptures and installations. Trained as an artist and architect at the Rhode Island School of Design, Smith incorporates the site-specificity of architecture, with its reliance on scale, and its capacity to physically impact the human interaction it supports, to create immersive viewing experiences. Smith also spent some time visiting with students and providing productive feedback on their studio projects.
