Visiting Assistant Professor of Practice David H. Haney asked students of his two-semester Histories of Architecture course to make a sketch from a slide that is shown during the last 5-10 minutes of most bi-weekly lectures.

Histories is taught as a type of design background course where the historical objects are to be understood as design case studies. The sketching process helps students to understand and remember the formal relationships and aesthetic characteristics of the selected buildings as a means of expanding their design awareness.
