Congratulations to Assistant Professor Alaa Algargoosh on three recent honors!
Alaa was recognized with the Mauro Pierucci Prize from the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), a research award from the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) Southwest Virginia, and a spot on the Saudi Women Pioneers list for her groundbreaking work in architectural acoustics.

The Pierucci Prize honors her research at Virginia Tech’s Advanced Acoustic Design Lab, where she is working with her student Jun Hyeok Choi in developing Sustainable Ventilated Acoustic Metamaterials (VAMs), innovative systems that balance noise control with healthy air exchange.

Her CCI research award will support her project, Securing Embodied Systems Against Adversarial Audio Through Physical Acoustics.

The Saudi Women Pioneers list celebrates 100 women making transformative contributions to the Kingdom’s advancement across critical sectors.
