Recently, Prof. Shelley Martin delivered the Opening Keynote Lecture at EXPLearn Symposium 2.0: Behind the Scenes of Experiential Learning in Architecture and Environmental Design Education at Les Grands Ateliers Innovation Architecture in Villefontaine, Isère France. Her lecture Un-alloyed Works: 6 Questions on Making @ Full Scale in Architectural Education provided pedagogical and theoretical underpinnings to open the conference.

Designed as a festival, the organization of this innovative symposium March 26 - 28 marked the launch of the ExpLearn network recently accredited by the French Ministry of Culture. It invited educators, researchers, and research institutions from French, European and international schools of architecture and landscape design, who are sensitive to learning by doing and experiential learning in the field of eco-responsible architecture and landscape, the art of building with bio-sourced and geo-sourced materials, and the holistic perception of space and the natural and built environment.

Closing Keynote Lecture by Sami Rintala, Finnish architect, artist, and professor who critically operates at the intersection of teaching and practice, and principal of internationally renowned Rintala Eggertsson Architects, with his own work is based on narrative and conceptualism. Prof. Martin's Opening Keynote lecture situated experiential learning pedagogies and modes of making, material behaviors and practices, disciplinary knowledge and a student's relation to their works at full scale through the lens of material culture and how these works exist in the public realm.
