Technology-Enhanced Learning Grant: Virtual Reality
May 14, 2025

A new teaching initiative in the architecture program at Virginia Tech explores the use of immersive virtual reality (VR) to improve students’ understanding of structural systems.
Using VR headsets and parametric 3D models developed in Rhino, the project enables students to interact with full-scale structural assemblies in a virtual environment. The goal is to assess how VR might support deeper comprehension of spatial relationships, material behavior, and design decisions in architectural education.
This pilot is supported by a Technology-Enhanced Learning Grant and includes ongoing student feedback to evaluate its impact.
