January 13, 2025
We’d like to congratulate alumnus Agustin Chambard ’23 on winning one of the 2024 Unbuilt Washington Awards in the student category!
Agustin Chambard, is an Architect and Urban Designer at KGP Design Studio, originally from Mendoza, Argentina. He holds a Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design from Virginia Tech’s Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center. His work focuses on sustainable urban transformation, including transportation hubs, memorials, and innovative residential projects. As a researcher and designer, he aims to address global challenges through interdisciplinary approaches that enhance quality of life.
Chambard’s thesis, “Street As… Reimagining the Street Through Autonomous Cars” sees how the rise of autonomous cars could transform cities by creating more human-centered and sustainable urban spaces. His thesis examines how these changes might reduce the need for parking, improve transportation efficiency, and shift reliance away from personal cars toward shared, constantly moving vehicles. These advancements offer an opportunity to reclaim streets for public use and enhance the quality of urban life.
Agustin expressed that the thesis process was a leap into the unknown, made possible by the WAAC faculty’s guidance, which consistently encouraged thinking outside the box.
