Are you ready for another edition of the School of Architecture Lecture Series?
This Thursday at 2pm in Hancock 100, Visiting Assistant Professors of Practice Jessica Hernandez + Edgar Garcia Carrasco will be conducting their lecture, "Moving the Immobile City Forward: Reflecting on a Decade of Impact”.
"Moving the Immobile City Forward: Reflecting on a Decade of Impact" examines a decade of efforts to advance design innovation on Colombia’s Caribbean Coast. In 2013, Edgar Garcia and Jessica Hernandez leveraged their international expertise and launched an initiative to address the region's limited resources by sharing knowledge gained abroad. This initiative aimed to drive social, economic, and environmental transformation through design and technology.
Faced with significant knowledge gaps and minimal institutional support, the authors challenged conventional design practices, becoming a critical resource for local students and professionals. The lecture highlights the role of shared resources in bridging these gaps, emphasizing how access to global information and technology can spark regional innovation.
Reflecting on their impact, they demonstrate how their contributions have empowered the local design community to adopt a forward-thinking approach, envisioning a future where continued collaboration and shared expertise drive ongoing progress in the region.
