This talk examines Barboursville, a masonry residence designed by Thomas Jefferson that was consumed by fire in 1884, which remains a ruin.  As a part of a book project, the ruins have been digitally scanned, and a series of reconstructions made of the building as designed, as constructed, and as modified over time. Visualization techniques employed range from a 3D Revit model to hand watercolors, all in an effort to investigate the building while leaving the ruins themselves untouched.  Taking this one step further, my Integrative Lab this semester is examining ways to design a series of interventions into the ruins, as yet another way of investigating possible architectural futures for the ruins.
