Recently, Associate Professor Margarita McGrath’s third-year lab had their final review for their designs on affordable housing for artists in McKees Rocks, Pittsburgh. The project aimed to design innovative live/work housing tailored for artists. The goal was to create a space where artistic production flourishes, while contributing an architecturally significant addition to the McKees Rocks community.

Students showcased different proposals that integrated living spaces and creative work spaces while providing a vision for the future of the Rocks through transformative design. Ideas were shared and discussed through drawings, renders and models. The conversations between the students and the reviewers encouraged further development and discussion of the role of architecture and design as a contribution towards a city’s urban landscape.
