2025 Fall Riva Group
September 4, 2025

The 2025 Fall Riva group began their semester-long European study abroad program on August 17 in Basel Switzerland. The visits included a series of Herzog & deMeuron buildings, but also the chapel of Ronchamp and the famous Antonius Church by Basel architect Karl Moser.
In the Antonius church and on three occasions, architecture theorist and historian Jacques Gubler introduced the students on site to the intricacies of the relationship between tangible material and political theory. To the architecture programs of Virginia Tech, the Antonius Church has a special connection: Karl Moser's grandson, the architect Lorenz Moser taught for several years in Blacksburg and made numerous philanthropic contributions to both the Riva and Blacksburg Programs.
