Architecture Students Test Accessibility First-Hand with Wheelchair Roll-About
October 9, 2025
Leadership of the Foundation for Rehabilitation Equipment and Endowment (F.R.E.E.) and the Universal Design (UD) Project lead a wheelchair 'roll-about' for 25+ undergraduate architecture students in Prof. Andrew Gipe-Lazarou's studio. After an in-class demonstration and discussion about mobility impairments, assistive devices, and the spaces that support them, students used wheelchairs to engage with the campus' accessible infrastructure (doors, ramps, elevators).
The activity demonstrates the School's commitment to preparing the next generation of architects to design spaces which are safe, inclusive, and supportive of independent living for all.
