Foundation Lab / Fall 2025

Professor: Edgar Garcia

The exercise carried out in class was based on the study of the Principles of Order, geometry, color, organization, and technique, taking as reference the work of Concrete Art artists such as Richard Paul Lohse, Theo van Doesburg, among others, whose contributions have had a lasting impact on contemporary art and architecture.

The objective of the activity was to provide students with a structured framework for analyzing and applying visual and spatial strategies in their own design processes. A central concept introduced was layering, understood as the practice of organizing and combining multiple elements, materials, or design features to generate depth, complexity, and meaning within a given context.

This idea was applied through the use of pastel techniques, grids, and different geometries and transparencies. Students developed a clearer understanding of how order and layering can be used to articulate design decisions. Ultimately, the exercise allowed for the integration of theory and practice, demonstrating how abstract artistic concepts can be translated into architectural thought and practice.
