Second Year Lab Formal Review
October 10, 2025
Hilary Bryon's second year lab held its first formal review of student work; reviewers included Ron Daniel, Andrew Shaver, Chris Pritchett, and Paola Zellner-Bassett.
The students were given a two-dimensional plan (or is it a section?) to analyze and then project through hand-drawing and modeling as a scaled, extended, three-dimensional spatial construct. Some of the underlying systems of order implied by the given two-dimensional projection drawing included: subtractive volume within mass, repeated parallel or gridded linear geometry, a field of columns or tubes, a 10-degree rotation, and primary geometric volumes.
Student presentations and the discussions which followed revolved around each student's interpretation and assertion of architectural principles as made evident from their designated scale, spatio-tectonic systems, and atmospheric qualities and as communicated through varied, purposeful representational techniques.
