On Wednesday, student work from six Integrative Design Labs across four campus locations was exhibited in the Cowgill Lobby and reviewed by a jury of practitioners and faculty. Taught during the 4th-year in many different studios, the Integrative Design Lab challenges students to develop works of architecture that balance the poetic and the technical – the needs of both human spirit and human occupation.

The scale, site, and programmatic requirements vary extensively across the studios, and the jury is challenged to recognize projects that offer strong architectural propositions which are highly resolved and compellingly presented. This fall, (24) projects – representing 1/3 of the entire cohort – were reviewed by two architects from @hanbury.design – Anna Carpenter, AIA, and Rob Ries, FAIA. Anna is a Principal and Senior Architect, as well as Adjunct Faculty in our School, and Rob serves as a Principal and Design Director for the firm. They were joined by Professor Dave Dugas, Graduate Architecture Program Chair, who rounded out the jury.

After an afternoon of close examination and discussion, the team recognized (5) projects equally in a top tier with Honor Awards, as well as (6) additional projects equally with Merit Awards. Congratulations to all the students and faculty for completing Integrative this semester – and to those whose work was recognized.
