For this year’s annual Career Day, Virginia Tech’s School of Architecture+Design hosted 106 Design firms from across the U.S.

Once again, Career Day was inaugurated with a lecture by a world-renowned architect. Bernard Tschumi, Principal of Tschumi Architects, New York and Paris, presented in the Moss Arts Center’s main hall on Sunday, February 23, 2020. About 900 individuals, including professionals, faculty members, and students, were engaged by Mr. Tschumi’s arguments of the interconnectedness of theory and practice that have guided his work over the years. Prior to lecture, firm representatives and faculty members met informally with Bernard Tschumi during a reception in the foyer of the Moss Arts Center, and the following morning, Mr. Tschumi generously responded to students’ questions at one of School’s recurring “Conversation with Students” events.

Also in conjunction with our Career Day, alumnus Kevin Sullivan, President and CEO of Payette, the 2019 AIA Firm of the year, opened a weeklong exhibition of his firm’s work in the Cowgill Lobby.

From 9 to 4 on Monday, students met with firm representatives at their booths at the VT Inn, sharing their portfolios and discussing opportunities for summer internships and/or permanent positions. Many firms sent their VT alumni to interview our students which propelled the expansion of the vigorous network of high-quality professional firms who appreciate the School’s educational value and seek out our students to join their teams.

We thank all the firms for their ongoing, long-lasting support and look forward to next year’s event.
