The 2020 2nd Year Architecture Competition was based around a brief for kayak storage and an observation tower to be built at the Virginia Tech Duck Pond.

"Spin, the folks who rent scooters on campus, is looking to expand to kayak rentals and have identified the Duck Pond as a site for a prototype project. The business requires an enclosed or semi-enclosed space to store rental kayaks. The University would like to pair that buildings with an observation tower. The two programs, kayak storage and observation tower, may be part of the same structure of be separate structures."

The first goal of the project was to design a building or buildings with something that is of a noble quality. The focus being on material and immaterial qualities, the interaction with the site, and form. The second goal was to include developing speed as a tool in the work process, being a week long competition.
