Dr. Joseph Bedford delivered a paper on Oct 22nd at an international symposium in Belgium on the relationship between history and theory with design. His paper, "Architectural Discourse in a Postliterate Age," addressed the effects of social media platforms on the production of architectural discourse. By analyzing four emerging contemporary practices, Professor Bedford articulates four key effects of today's algorithmically-mediated image culture upon the nature of architectural discourse:

1) that it increasingly transforms life into work;
2) that it further displaces authorship;
3) that it disaggregates the completed work at a certain scale; and;
4) that it increases the tendency towards ambiguity in communications.
