Dennis B. Jones

Professor Emeritus

In 1995 the University of Arkansas honored Professor Jones as Distinguished Professor and Minority Fellow. He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan, followed by a Master of Science in Architecture degree and postgraduate study at Columbia University.

Mr. Jones teaches a design studio stressing the integration of computing into the design process. He also teaches computer programming courses in C/C++ and three-dimensional graphics; as well as courses in Computer Aided Design and Virtual Environments. Prior to his current academic appointment, Mr. Jones was a member of the faculty at Yale University and Mississippi State University.

Mr. Jones is a registered architect and a member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Organization of Minority Architects and a founding member of the Association for Computer Machinery.

He maintains an active consulting practice in computer graphics and information systems applications. In 1998 Mr. Jones founded 9th Insight, Inc with Javier Krasuk and Florencia San Martin. 9th Insight is a multimedia and internet service company

In 2005 Professor Jones co-founded Quantum Matrix Holdings, LLC a software development company focusing on multimedia database and graphics applications. Mr. Jones serves as President of 9th Insight, and as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Quantum Matrix Holdings, LLC, located in Centenial Colorado. 9th Insight’s offices are located in Metropolitan Washington D. C. and Milan Italy. 9th Insight was recently honored to be an exhibitor at the Smithsonian Institute on web technology in the 21st century

In professional architectural practice, he was a principal and director of computer services for the Ehrenkrantz Group, New York, New York. Prior to this he worked for Skidmore Owings and Merrill, where he was a senior designer and was involved in computer applications research and development. His research work in video technology and CAD appears frequently in national publications such as Architecture Magazine. Mr. Jones has served as a Design Resource Expert for the National Mayor’s Institute on Design and has served since 1980 as a panelist and member of the advisory panel of the Design Arts Program of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Mr. Jones is a speaker of national and international reputation, he won the honor of best paper at a recent International conference on Systems Research and Informatics and Cybernetics held in Baden, Baden Germany. For a number years, Mr. Jones has been a featured speaker for the nations largest conference on design technology, AEC DESCON Systems. He has spoken at the National American Institute of Architects convention. Most recently professor Jones was invited to speak at The 6th International Conference on Design and Decision Support Systems in Architecture and Urban Planning. Held in the Netherlands in July 2002. His topic was the Quantum Matrix a Three Dimensional Data Integration and Collaboration Tool for Virtual Environments and the Desktop.

In May 2005, Mr. Jones Traveled to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with a Team of Virginia Tech Students and Faculty to conduct a research study of the community of Veron in conjunction with the Bio-Diversity Center.
