Jaan Holt, Patrick and Nancy Lathrop Professor Emeritus, earned a B.Arch from Virginia Tech in 1965 and a M.Arch from the University of Pennsylvania in 1966. Notably, while at the University of Pennsylvania, he attended the studio of Louis I. Kahn. Following his postgraduate degree, Holt taught at Montana State University (1966-1968) and the Middle East Technical University (1968-1970) before joining the faculty of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech in 1972. From 1976 to 1982, he chaired the Architecture program here. He helped establish the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center (WAAC) in 1980 and was appointed Director of the Center in 1984, remaining in that role until 2016.
