noroof (+)

This W_Internship is designed as a ten-day journey into scale, where you’ll experience the difference between a ~2,500 ft² residential project and the orchestration of a 600,000+ ft² building. At noroof architects in Brooklyn, where you’ll be based, you’ll see how a small practice operates, contributing to design and construction administration where every inch carries weight. Then, with Turner Construction, you’ll experience the other end of the spectrum—one day inside their BIM “cave” and one day in the field—watching how enormous teams stretch and flex to bring large-scale projects into being.

Possible Experiences:

Participate in construction administration on small residential projects with noroof architects, assisting with documentation, site observations, and change orders.

Gain insight into the daily operations of a small practice, including studio structure, project management, and client communication.

Attend a BIM coordination session in Turner’s “cave” to understand how digital models are used to manage large-scale projects.

Shadow Turner Construction subcontractor coordination, observing first-hour field meetings and the logistics of scaling up to 600,000+ ft² projects.

Compare and reflect on the differences in process, scale, and culture between a nimble design practice and a large construction operation.

Qualifications:

Strong design curiosity and adaptability, with the ability to move fluidly between conceptual thinking and practical problem-solving.

Attention to detail and care for craft, especially in drawings, text, and construction documentation.

A collaborative spirit and communication skills suited to both the intimacy of a small studio and the scale of large, multidisciplinary teams.

Interest in construction processes and eagerness to learn from field conditions, whether at the scale of a 2,500 ft² residence or a 600,000+ ft² building.

Familiarity with and openness to exploring both analog and digital methods of design and coordination.
